It’s been long in the making but Halves‘ debut long player titled It Goes, It Goes (Forever & Ever) will finally be with us on October 29th on CD and Deluxe gatefold vinyl (with free mp3 download). ‘Darling, You’ll Meet Your Maker’ is the first free download from the album and its rich artful instrumentation sums up Halves’ modus operandi perfectly.

It Goes, It Goes (Forever & Ever) was recorded in Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s studios Hotel2Tango in Montreal with Efrim Menuck in August of 2009. 11 songs were recorded live, in one large room on 2″ reel-to-reel tape with the use of the studio’s vast collection of instruments, amps, organs, effects (most of which dated from 1930s-1980s). Additional recording took place in the band’s own studio The Windfarm with Richard McCullough. Perfomers on the album include Amy Millan (Stars/BSS), Katie Kim, Phil Boughton (Subplots), Canadian harpist Elaine Kelly-Canning, Irish Chamber brass and string players and 27 members of the Kilkenny choir.

All Is Violent, All Is Bright (2005) is the band’s second album. The album features their build ups from serene ambience to searing intensity and is a closer representation of their live sound. The single PlayFragile from the album has also received plays on MTV2 UK’s 120 minute show and MTV’s “The Comedown” show.

God Is an Astronaut released an EP called A Moment Of Stillness in 2006.

Halves - Halves EP

Tracklist :

01 - Take Exact Revenge
02 - Burial On A Windfarm
03 - Tony Hart's Revenge Theme

This three-track EP from Dublin's Halves oozes the sort of qualities you'd associate with all things epic: it comes housed in a silver-on-grey embossed cardboard sleeve and - here's the dead giveaway - it's bound with ribbon. Once you get past that nice, prim packaging you'll find an abundance of ideas within the ten minutes or so this lasts. You'll hear elements of Efterklang, 65daysofstatic and Sigur Ros in here, with a mingling of electronics, quiet-loud guitars, plus some well judged glockenspiel and string arrangements, but beyond these sorts of customary post-rock touchstones, Halves manage to surprise, writing at least one traditionally formatted song (the excellent 'Take Exact Revenge', which includes vocals) while adding something to those well-trodden, crescendo-focussed, linear structures on 'Burial On A Windfarm'. Finally, silly titles get the better of the band, but third track 'Tony Hart's Revenge Theme' shows a different side to their repertoire, missing out the drums in favour of an effects-drenched guitar and synth instrumental, reminiscent of the kind of sunkissed, hazy compositions of Manual. While this promising EP could well be enjoyed by all manner of audiences, post-rock genre fans should consider it required listening.

[me]This is Halves first EP. Enjoy! Thx to sir Mayo @ IP for the link. Ups.. i think i'll get a little bit longer stuck in Halves ^^

Halves - Haunt Me When I’m Drowsy (2008) (AWESOME !!!)

Tracklist :

1. Darkenings
2. May Your Enemies Never Find Happiness
3. Amberscene
4. The Lamp Dies... A Sleeping Circuit Wakes
5. Medals
6. In The Sorrow, In The Fire
7. Morning Breaks The Sleep

As with the previous release we've had in by Halves (their eponymous debut EP), the packaging of Haunt Me When I'm Drowsy is incredibly lavish. Across these seven tracks the band do a splendid job of avoiding the formulaic tendencies of the post-rock fraternity, instead exhibiting sufficient diversity and skill to avoid being yet another quiet/loud Mogwai knock off.. You simply can't avoid certain references, however: right down to the vocals, there are clear cut Sigur Ros approximations on tracks like 'In The Sorrows, In The Fire' or 'May Your Enemies Never Find Happiness'. You can make out further Scandinavian influence in the Efterklang-style microbeats and orchestration of 'Amberscene' or the m-isms of 'Medals, but fortunately Halves write and perform well enough to carry off such ambitious music with great aplomb. Genre fans won't want to miss out on this one - Lovely.

There is no question halves stand alone in the Irish music scene. Fusing live strings, electronic beats, and many other toys with a traditional rock setup. They craft unique soundscapes, from delicate yet haunting pieces to almost cinematic scale post-rock.

[me]Aarrggh.. another awesome album. Halves = Sigur Ros+Mogwai+Efterklang-style. Great debut album. Thx for sir Mayo @ IP :)
