This upcoming and a crowd a favourite band in Wuhan started out as a Britpop influenced band in 2004 and has undergone several changes. The band’s interest slowly changed to the howling wall of Post-Rock noise and melody and thus settled on this very sound in late 2006. Since, then they have extensively toured the east coast and have received widespread attention and public recognition. They finally released their highly-anticipated album in early 2008 and have been regarded as the pioneers of the new wave of Post-Rock bands in China.

Tracklist :

1. Chapter of Child
2. Close View
3. Anxiety Inhibitor
4. ¡ûM¡ú
5. Hang on The Timeline
6. Halcrow
7. Vaseline

The band was formed in the city of Dalian, a busy seaport in northeast China, in the year of 1999. Wangwen was at first started by two awkward (at that time!) guitarists who were crazy about The Smashing Pumpkins and later joined by the drummer who also brought along the band name, representing the idea of an unknown band and insensibility to what others say.

The band began to record their first demo- ‘the animal world’ on their own in the same year they formed. Since then the band members had been changing while continuous creation of new pieces of music and performing. ‘lingshuihe’(‘the IceWaterRiver’)was recorded on their own in 2000 and the third demo ‘the Tenebrous Yinyang Road’ was also completed two years later.

During this period the music style of the band had been gradually changing from vocal to instrumental and started to draw broad attentions both from the reviews and the audience as well. It was considered as the one of the leading band from china in the fields of post-rock and acid rock. The band was influenced by: Mogwai, Red Red Meat, Mono, Explosion in the Sky, Polvo, Tortois--GYBE, etc.

Wang Wen’s music is a mix of sad sweet melodies, heavy, noisy guitars, and Chinese scales. Close your eyes and you will easily lose yourself in the ambiance created by their music. It takes you back to the scenes of your favorite movies.

Their new album will be released on the new record label recently founded by Beijing record dealer Zhao Chenhong.

Tracklist :

01. 兩個人的旅行 (Gemini Trip)
02. 水滴 (Droplets)
03. 愛情國度 (Love Country)
04. 一個人的旅行 (Single Person’s Trip)
05. 兆分之一鳥 (Moment from a Bird)
06. 最後的探戈 (Last Tango)
07. 我聽王娟唱歌時是這樣想的 (When I Listen to Wang Juan)
08. 最後的探戈 (Last Tango) [Finale]

Bringing two artists together is always interesting. Especially when they normally mix with slightly different genres. Hu Zi started off as at the Chinese Academy of music but ended up as a DJ producing more upbeat electronica genre styled music whereas Wang Juan is a folk guitarist.

Their eponymous 2005 album was conceived as an experimental marriage of acoustic and electronic music, reminiscent of the British band Portishead or Icelandic artist Bjork. I think the end results is much better than anticipated. It’s a soft, dreamy album - even with the mellow electronic tunes it can produce the same effects as, say 929, a calm relazing Sunday afternoon just lazing around.
