Emeralds is the new album by guitarist/songwriter, producer and sound architect Robin Guthrie. Another uncompromising step along the path that is his vision, enveloping the listener with the aesthetic enchantment which has become his trademark.

From the opening notes of ‘Digging for Gold’ to the last echoes of ‘The Little Light Fades’, Emeralds takes us on a voyage which moves our emotions, stimulates our senses and leaves us feeling that the world must be a better place seen through the eyes of Robin Guthrie. The album provokes a whole range of emotions from joy to melancholy and back again, never once failing to arouse the imagination of those who become captured by it. With the joyously uplifting ‘Wishing’ and the evocatively haunting melody of ‘Torch’ Guthrie quietly coaxes beauty out of layers of echoes and seemingly invites the listener inside the music to become an integral part of the whole creation. Inspired by events, literature and travel while possessing an uncanny ability to translate his pure emotions into melody,

Guthrie is one of very few rare talents who can create instrumental music which the listener feels part of. His recent instrumental offerings, Sunflower Stories, Songs to Help My Children Sleep, Carousel and Angel Falls, among countless others, illustrate his flair for creating music which seems to touch at the very core of those who consume it. Emeralds follows the release of Bordeaux, an album recorded last summer when minimalist legend Harold Budd joined Guthrie in France for some concerts and recordings. Bordeaux, featuring the two absolute masters of sonic beauty and modern ambient, is quickly becoming acknowledged as a landmark work.

Guthrie has been a massive influence on everyone from My Bloody Valentine to M83 and School of Seven Bells however it's not surprising that as a guitarist and producer, though many people are aware of him as Cocteau Twins principal sound designer, his defining role in the, once again, fashionable shoegazing scene with his productions for the likes of Lush and Chapterhouse shouldn't be overlooked. His recent studio credits include Telefon Tel Aviv, Ulrich Schnauss and Heligoland. As a composer of soundtracks he has recently scored his third feature film: Gregg Araki's Kaboom; following Araki’s Mysterious Skin and Dany Saadia’s 3:19, both of which were released as soundtrack albums; he has performed live extensively with Lumière, and its successor Galerie, both short animated films that he created as backdrops for his atmospheric, hypnotic guitar-based instrumental concerts.

This is such a beautiful song, every time you listen to it, you could imagine the world slowly coming to an end. Things collapsing, skyscrapers, houses even mountains. That's just the picture this song paints. For Me ;) The violins at the end is just absolute bliss, the most beautiful thing I've ever heard in a song. 23 minutes long ...of AWESOME-ness !

Mogwai are Dominic Aitchison, Stuart Braithwaite, Martin Bulloch, Barry Burns, and John Cummings. The band was birthed in the halcyon days of the mid-‘90s and helped Glasgow become one of the real bright spots in the musical universe again. Not everyone gets Mogwai, but that’s what makes them great. Theirs is a majestic, powerful sound where barely a word is spoken yet it is the antithesis of background music. Album and song titles bemuse, confuse and delight in equal measure and live, they are utterly unstoppable. Recorded at Chem 19 studios with producer Paul Savage (who recorded 1997’s Mogwai Young Team), Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will is the band’s seventh album. It’s a brave and instinctive album that is charged with an energy, spirit and intensity few can match. It is the sound of a band comfortable in their own skin, but clawing at the edges of their own capabilities, and drawing out something particularly special in the process.

‘Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will’, was recorded over the summer at Chem 19 Studios, in Hamilton and mixed at The Castle Of Doom. ‘Hardcore’ is produced by Mogwai confidante Paul Savage (the man behind Mogwai’s exceptional 1997 ‘Mogwai Young Team’ album) and is the follow up to 2008’s magnum opus ‘The Hawk Is Howling’.

The album will be released on February 15 2011 in the US where Mogwai have recently signed to the illustrious Sub Pop label for North America.

There will also be a Limited Edition version of the album, which includes a bonus CD featuring a 26 minute long piece called ‘The Singing Mountain’ recorded for Douglas Gordon and Olaf Nicolai’s ‘Monument for Forgotten Future’ installation in Essen, Germany

01 Fifth (The Impossibility of Death)

03 Song, Woman and Wine
04 Trip in a Blanik
05 Two Trains
06 Harmonics
07 AGOA
08 As You Lie

Gareth Dickson has spent the last two and a half years touring with Vashti Bunyan as her guitarist. This gave him the opportunity to work with great musicians like Devendra Banhart, Juana Molina and Coco Rosie, as well as the chance to perform in some of the great venues all over the world from The Barbican(London) to Carnegie Hall (New York).

Gareth, who hails from Glasgow, Scotland, uses a steel stringed acoustic guitar and effects (delay and reverb) in his quest to recreate the ambiance of some of his more recent musical influences (Aphex Twin, Brian Eno) while drawing on the guitar techniques of some of the finger-picker guitarists of the past (Bert Jansch, Robert Johnson, Nick Drake). Thus far Gareth has released one self produced album 'Spruce Goose' as well as contributing to compilations on Lo Recordings and Benbecula Records among others.

Gareth has opened for Alasdair Roberts, Juana Molina, Schneider TM and recently has finished tours supporting Isobel Campbell with Mark Lanegan, as well as a recent tour of Europe opening for Juana Molina.

"A solo artist singing and playing acoustic guitar - sometimes effected, his songs slip between a beautifully sparse, emotive fragility (recalling Nick Drake, Bert Jansch, etc.) and denser instrumentals (recalling Eno or Labradford). Very cool stuff." Fatcat Records.

[me]If you like Peter Broderick.. you should try this album. Beautiful !!! =)
