A Finnish electronic duo, Samu Kuukka & Ville Kuukka, The Gentleman Losers seem to branch out of the dead-end post-Morr kitchensinktronica from where they spung, by adding layers of haze to their instrumentals, though underneath all the painstakingly placed decay and static, the songs arent terribly interesting. This is very similar in feel and sound to the Helios album Eingya, but with a more dogged and creaky post Morricone-cinematic-noir quality. Beautifully plucked acoustic guitars dance along with faded tape loops, dusty keyboards,
and trudging drum machines, creating incredibly evocative images of lonely country roads, and wind-ridden tundra. Notthe most appealing idea, but theres a warm and wintery feeling here thats just right!
