Patiently written down dates, noted with a piano and carefully collected on cassette tapes, one by one. An assiduous attempt to keep books of time, to sketch the events, the landscapes and neighborhoods with melodies and recordings of sound. For several years Joel Danell has been writing songs on a piano, all given the names of dates as if they were diary notes. The kind of notes where the writing, more than the words themselves, recounts for the moment of them being written: times of accumulation where the letters stand close to each other and reach far into the margin, moments of pensiveness where lines have been crossed out and others have been added and moments of excitement where the letters have gained in size and defied the ruling of the sheet.

"Datum" is the retelling of these notes with the help of violin, whistling, guitar, accordion and Dobro, recorded in Blackeberg January 2008. Pieces that recount for an otherwise forgotten day in April, that describe the view from a balcony in a Stockholm suburb in late October, that is a remembrance of the rushing bicycle and the passing landscape in the beginning of June.

Like waves against a barren cliff, strongly captivating, attractingly beautiful. This is where the roaring, rumbling ocean throws itself towards the rocks och falls down in fragile, brittle drops. A wind that shifts between storm and breeze, carried by the melodies of the sunset.

The musical collaboration between Elin Lindfors and Anna-Karin Berglund began when they both participated in a promotional tour for a compilation album they had not even contributed to. With that they started their first band, Loai, which shortly after this made their record debut with a five song EP. After a couple of years of industrious playing a longing for a new sound appeared and they packed their bags for a journey they never will forget. Twiggy Frostbite took shape in the spring of 2006, inspired by the London Underground, and the music evolved to something unique. Even though they were not in the same country or had a band to play with, they signed up for a music competition, all to create a deadline and by that means add some pressure to it. Twiggy Frostbite went all the way to the finals, to their great surprise and got attention in the radio. The first demo resulted in a nationwide TV-report and also later on a record deal.

Twiggy Frostbite has its roots in Gävle and shares members with the Deer Tracks and Grizzly Twister. The untamed tones and frosty noise of the northern Swedish coast meet the acustics of the tube and create a dreamlike atmosphere. The debut album “Through Fire” will arrive in the winter of 2009 and is a melodic journey from doldrums to hurricane.

2. Till våning tretton
3. Solen har förblindat mig
4. Tiden gick, men utan oss
5. I huset jag växte upp
6. En tonårsromans
7. Dagsländan

Dorena is a Swedish post-rock band formed in 2007 by 5 guys spread around the city of Gothenburg. The members have played together in various constellations since they were in middle class. Before starting Dorena in the fall of 2007, four of the five members were in a screamo band. When the singer decided to leave, Kim started to play guitar and Simon took over the bass.

Holofon is Dorena's Debut. They sound great. They are not bringing something new to post rock, but they tickle great the guitars. They are from Sweden and I think their energy is unique. Sometimes they present screamo moods and desires and other times they sound like Sigur Ros and Hammock or maybe more chill out artists. Interesting music and well constructed melodic compositions. Noise rock mixed with lovely ambient parts.

Jeniferever is a four-piece band from Uppsala, Sweden. They have previously released four EPs and one album since 2002, and have played over 250 live shows across Europe. Over the years, they have gained an ever-growing band of admirers, who have bestowed descriptions such as ‘lush’, ‘melodic’, ‘swooping’, ‘glacial’, ‘beautiful’, ‘shimmering’, ‘sublime’, ‘electrifying’ and ‘atmospheric’ on their music.

Some have compared their sound to the physical beauty of their native country, with its aural landscapes of slow-paced melodies which build to orchestral-like climaxes. Stylistically, the music can fit into a number of different genres, with its elements of ambient indie rock, post-rock, shoegaze and dream pop.

Each song is perfectly crafted in a way that lends equal importance to all instruments, with intricate interplay between Martin Sandström’s, Kristofer Jönson’s and Olle Bilius’ guitars, the melodic intertwining of keyboards and Kristofer Jönson’s softly dolorous vocals and the warm heartbeat of Fredrik Aspelin’s drumming.

The Deer Tracks
is David Lehnberg & Elin Lindfors, both children of the Swedish town of Gävle. Despite their earlier success with respective projects (Leiah, Ariel Kill Him & Twiggy Frostbite), all roads led them into this electromagnetic mist of melodies. And so, around the shift of 06/07, they met to shape electro landscapes just as sparkling as the rime that sheeted the long and hard winter nights.

“Yes this is my broken shield”, the opener to The Deer Tracks‘ debut record, is a track that could easily have overshadowed the rest of the album. And while “Aurora” never again reaches the stellar heights of the closing minutes of “…broken shield”, the band has plenty of other avenues to explore. The electronic production on “Aurora” is nothing short of fantastic, combining the glitchy with the organic, folding the vocals and guitars effortlessly into the mix, and creating dense, lavish compositions that effortlessly span the emotional range from triumphant to melancholic. Strangely, there are only little touches to connect this project to David Lehnberg’s previous bands (Leiah, Ikaros, Ariel Kill Him), with far more connections drawn to acts such as Four Tet, the Notwist, Sigur Rós“Ba ba ti ki di do” and Mew. “Aurora”, despite the range of its influences, is a distinctively Scandinavian, if not characteristically Swedish, record — showing beauty to be both a thing of wonder and tragedy, and effortlessly so. As I wrote for “Yes this is my broken shield”, The Deer Tracks have raised the bar. “Aurora” is one of the great albums of 2008.
- Lars Garvey Laing-Peterson

"Múm meets Mew meets M83 = Pretty damn alluring, huh? Sounds like a bag of dreams hovering skyward to our ears. The equation resulted in the discovery of The Deer Tracks, and a finer equation you are unlikely to discover this year."
Clash Magazine

"Fits perfectly to sit and cry to while you are looking at the leftovers of your relationship in an ashtray"
Nöjesguiden

"Get this as fast as you can, - it will be a wonderful companion to the darker months to come."
Eardrums Music

"It is beautiful, it is charmingly, it is playful and becomes almost epic and majestic when the songs are blossoming out."

Formed in 2003 by young Claes Strängberg as a musical experiment, only 16 years old. Later on brought his twinbrother Per on the train, and immanu el was a fact. They joined forces with childhood friends Mikael and Emil and started to create atmospheric pop music heavily influenced by gods like Sigur Rós and Logh in a barn outside the small town Jönköping in Sweden. A demo, a trip to Reykjavik, a self released EP, film music to a chinese movie and now a full lenght on ATS Records. It all went fast, why slow down? The future looks promising, and bright.

Immanu El's music is simply heavenly in all aspects of the word: The music is gentle while never trying to sound like background music, the melodies are always on the positive side, the vocals are light and the lyrics are full of hope and have strong religious connotations without sounding cheesy (and that's always a plus, because I never enjoyed that kind of music because of the lyrics). The music can be seen as the opposite of Gregor Samsa. While Gregor Samsa are always moody, depressing and pessimistic, Immanu El are the complete opposite while still being very closely related to them musically (albeit being a bit faster and louder than Gregor Samsa at times) so fans of Gregor Samsa will also find this band quite enjoyable. The vocals are very soothing and they help a lot in creating the airy atmosphere. The music in general feels very lighthearted, even in crescendos. The only problem I can see in them is that they don't have much of a variety from one song to another, but it isn't much of a trouble and it doesn't affect the enjoyment of the music.

Seaside Rock, the album Peter, Bjorn and John have been hinting at since the spring, is finally ready to rock. A vinyl- and digital- only release, it will come out in the U.S. on Almost Gold/Star Time International on September 23. The U.S. edition is limited to 5000 LPs, each accompanied by a download code. (V2 will release the album in the trio's native Sweden, while Wichita will handle it in the UK.)

It turns out that Seaside Rock isn't a completely instrumental album after all. According to a press release written by PB&J themselves, "As homage to Peter Bjorn and John's respective hometowns they wanted to feature the voice and dialect from each of the three areas. So apart from the instrumental soundtrack to the lonely childhood of northern Scandinavia you can also hear three monologues about some sort of seaside. The stories are read by a real saxophone player from Norsjö, a grandfather from Vika and the hairdresser Siw from Piteå."

The album was recorded in spring 2007 at the same studio in Sweden where Abba recorded most of their material. Its sound was inspired by "the memory of the sound of the Swedish music school orchestras from hell," according to PB&J's press release. (Actually, this press release they wrote is pretty funny. So we've included most of it below the jump.)

After a spate of solo shows in support of this year's The Last Tycoon, Peter Morén will rejoin Bjorn Yttling and John Eriksson for a spate of full band dates in the early fall.

[me]PBJ release an instrumental album? That's sound interesting. Once again, Thx to my friend @ IP ;)

pg.lost is a swedish four-piece post-rock band formed in Norrköping in 2004. The band was initially called Before You Give In but after numerous changes in the lineup the band took on the current name and the members are:

* Gustav Almberg: Guitar/Keys
* Mattias Bhatt: Guitar
* Martin Hjertstedt: Drums
* Kristian Karlsson: Bass/Voice

"An orchestra of the heart, a playground for the long lost sporadic thoughts of giving in or getting back. Pg.Lost is a swedish band of many directions, but most of all a band throbbing with great melancholy grinding against the precious high hopes of not just individual human thinking and feeling, but also contrasts within pushing the sonic boundries of endless instrumental experiments of prolonging. Pg.Lost recently recieved a lot of press attention because of an American individual attracting a record deal by falsely using their music as his own. But then again Pg.Lost does have a way of sounding like a deep emotion or unresolved issues, so no wonder a fraction of us get confused, and start mistaking their music for something private."

Pg.Lost feature members from Eskju Divine and Last Days Of April and has supported bands like MONO, Khoma and Efterklang.
